So a lot has changed around here since the last post I published on October 8. (It’s kind of weird that it was one month ago today!) My big takeaway is to find time for things that make you happy…even when you feel like there’s no time for anything.
The rut that I was writing about is still here but I’m in a better place. Still trying to figure things out, still having some big-life stuff, but in a better frame of mind. All that stuff I tried- the book, the exercise, the meditation, the connection- worked!
I’m working full-time outside the home right now and that has been a big change. I don’t want to get too into it, but it has been a challenging and emotional adjustment. Every time I have to scramble to find coverage for my kids or one of them has to miss something because I won’t be home to take them I think of the moms who have been doing this all along. This is part of motherhood for working moms.
But in other “mind, body, spirit” news…
- I finished May Cause Miracles by Gabrielle Bernstein…a book review will come soon but I will say two things about it now: I liked the daily, guidebook format and it was a great way to make meditation a part of everyday life.
- I have not meditated regularly since I finished the book, but I do find myself taking little mind breaks and using breathing practices when I’m stressed.
- Morning Meltdown (the program I started October 1) is awesome. There are about 5 or 6 women doing it in my little Facebook group and we are all loving it. The workouts are short (20-30 minutes) and there’s lots of variety. It’s very no-nonsense and I’m feeling strong.
- I’m still doing the whole Intermittent Fasting thing and feeling pretty good…though I need to clean up the eating I do when my eating window starts.
- There’s a great app one of my friends recommended in the comments of this blog- Insight Timer. It’s free and it’s a great tool for meditation. You can select how long you want to meditate and choose a pretty sound to gently tell you when time is up. There are also options for background music. I love it!
- I’ve been listening to Cathy Heller’s Don’t Keep Your Day Job podcast. Even if you love your day job it’s a great podcast. It encourages creativity and doing things that make you happy, that you’re passionate about.
There have been many life lessons over the past few weeks. One part of this transition in our life was that I felt like I was giving up on my blog, giving up on my dreams. I didn’t write a blog post, I stopped listening to inspiring podcasts. But now that I’ve adjusted a bit, and reevaluated some things, I’ve decided that this change doesn’t mean I’m a failure. It doesn’t mean I have to give up on my dreams. It doesn’t mean that part of me is squashed…
So this week I started listening to the podcast on the way to and from work. Last Friday I sent a newsletter to my subscribers, even if I felt like I didn’t have much to say. And now I’m writing a blog post at 5 in the morning before I get ready for work.
Wherever you are in your life a side hustle, a passion project, a hobby, a dream career aspiration…they can bring you joy. Find the time for these things, even if you’re busy, even if you feel like you suck.
Do you have a hobby or a passion project? I’d love to hear from you!
